Reducing Costs is the New Green
Written by Michael Tanenhaus
Ok, let's face it. It's going to be a tough economic year. The fact is people are scared. Doesn't matter about the reasons or numbers - it just matters that EVERYONE is looking for ways to make do with less for 2009. I talked about how key innovations can still be done in 2009 in my "Salsa is Optional" blog by exercising some restraint on optional components. Now I am going to give you three more specific ideas for 2009:
- Manufacturer refurbished products can help
- Look at those financing deals!
- Some software is free!
Free! I must know more !

TIP OF THE MONTH:
How To Use Scripted Backups with Compellent
Written by Jessica Tanenhaus
I've been spending a lot of time scripting these days (which is cool, because I happen to think scripting is fun), and part of that scripting has been devoted to automating backups using a mix of CompCU (Compellent Command Utility, the command line tool for Compellent), batch scripts, and KiX scripts. The batch and KiX scripts could easily be moved over to PowerShell (Compellent released a PowerShell version and I have the bare bones of the scripts, but haven't refined them yet), VBscript, BASH, or name-your-scripting-language-of-choice. For this post, I'll cover how the CompCU scripts are put together.
Let's get started!
